Holloman is quite literally in the middle of nowhere, in Alamogordo, NM. However, take advantage of the mountains nearby during the incredibly hot summers. The Rec Center has great deals on campers and most everyone heads to Cloudcroft and other mountain towns to cool off. White Sands is also a nice place to go, just go with someone who has been there before if you decide to go hiking. Enjoy the yummy green chile?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s, the Heart of the Desert Pistachio farm, and there is also an ostrich farm. Las Cruces is only an hour away if you want to go shopping or get a little more ?¢‚Ǩ?ìculture.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù Just make sure you check to make sure the highway isn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t going to be shut down for missile testing on the day/time you decide to head over there. El Paso, TX is an 1 1/2 away, so when Texas has their tax free weekends almost everyone heads there for back to school shopping. Ft. Bliss has a really great BX that you can go to as well. There is a large German community there, and they even set up their own school in town. Oktoberfest is a fun time on base. The base does try to make sure that there are lots of activities, and if you have kids DEFINITELY get involved at the Rec Center.
